Family Portrait is part of the exhibition "Vera Chapter Two" curated by Erika Muller and Kirsty Minns.
Vera’s best moment during the year is going to Luna Park. She usually goes once or twice a year; it’s a tradition she has with her grandparents who organise this annual treat, sometimes also Vera’s mother joins them. The Luna Park is not really close to Vera’s town, in fact it takes a while to get there, the car has to leave around 8 to arrive at the Luna Park around 11. Vera, she’s now 7 years old and today, the 16th of july, it’s that special day. Vera is awake from 6.30 because she’s so excited to go to her favourite place. Once everyone wakes up, she put on her favourite dress, ready to go. Vera loves nature, especially to be surrounded by flowers, a reason why she loves flowery dresses so much, she loves to lay down on the grass feeling the nature, having picnics. The trip in the car is always really fun for Vera, but she can’t stand it when her grandfather, Eric, needs to stop to relax a bit. Vera’s grandfather brings with him his favourite chair, It’s a simple white chair, light enough to be transported and to give him the comfort he needs before to starts to drive again. The car stops and Eric gets out. Vera is really disappointed and she doesn’t see any reason why they should stop. But Eric always knows how to manage this kind of situation and in that moment, has a brilliant idea: a blanket he found in the car becomes the perfect excuse for an amazing picnic...
